Amsonia, commonly called "Bluestar," is a northeastern US native perennial that deserves to be better known. Does best in full sun but will take a little shade as well. Grows to about 2-3' tall and wide with stems that are nearly black and olive green leaves. Light periwinkle-blue, star-shaped flowers appear abundantly in late spring/early summer, with occasional rebloom later in the summer. Prune foliage back after first bloom for more compact habit. Drought tolerant once established.
