Blue Heaven is a compact variety with violet-blue flower spikes. Grows 24-30" tall and wide. Zone 5.
Butterfly Bush is one of the most popular shrubs for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. Colorful flower spikes with a fruity scent. Butterfly bush will flower from June all the way until fall, but it's important to remove spent flower spikes in order to encourage growth of new shoots and flower buds. Plants that become too leggy can be pruned back during the season. They will quickly regrow and flower again the same season. A hard pruning is recommended in late winter/early spring. In a harsh winter, stems may die back to the ground, but will regrow vigorously from the roots in the spring. Deciduous. Needs plenty of sun (at least half a day) and ample watering, especially the first season. Deer and rabbit resistant.
